Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim has ruled out the possibility of his team winning the league title this season, despite going on a remarkable run of form in the last few months.
Monaco were struggling with the prospect of relegation early on in the campaign, but they have sufficiently recovered to be in a position of finishing in the top three.
They are only nine points behind third placed Paris St Germain, while table leaders Lyon are a further two points ahead. Since there are still several matches left in the season, the prospect of Monaco winning the first league title after a long time has been raised.
Despite struggling with injuries to key players like Ricardo Carvalho and Moutinho, Monaco will be taking on table leaders Lyon with a lot of confidence this weekend.Jardim says that his team will be going out in search of a victory, but he cannot guarantee the possibility of a title success. In fact, he believes that the league title this season is for the likes of Marseilles, Lyon, and Paris St Germain to win. The reverse fixture saw Monaco suffer a 2-1 defeat, and it left them in the bottom three earlier in the campaign. A victory this weekend could see Monaco jump ahead of Saint Etienne into the fourth place.
“It’s going to be difficult. Paris is the number one. Marseille and Lyon have a favourable fixture list. They also have quality squads. So they have a chance. For the moment, what is happening to us is exceptional. We just have to keep our feet on the ground so as to not get carried away, and try to keep our little cushion of a lead for as long as possible,” saidJardim. Monaco are also looking to continue their progress in the French cup.
