Monaco failed to move up the Ligue 1 table after suffering a 2-2 draw with Ajaccio.
The result could have been worse for Leonardo Jardim’s team had it not been for the late equaliser from Ricardo Carvalho. The former Chelsea defender has just become the oldest scorer in the French top division with his goal against Ajaccio. This was also his first goal for the French outfit after completing a move from Real Madrid a few years ago.Carvalho was a major threat from set pieces during his time at Chelsea. Hence, Monaco fans were left a little surprised to see him not score on a regular basis from such opportunities.
Paris St Germain are all set to run away with the French league title after having averaged more than 2.5 points per game. Monaco, in contrast, are already more than 20 points behind in the table. They are realistically fighting to finish second in the table which will provide them with Champions League football. The away team were 2-0 up in the game at half-time. Things looked very difficult for Monaco, but they were able to get back into the match through goals from the likes of Carvalho and Fabinho. The result helps Leonardo Jardim overcome a disappointing 0-0 draw against Troyes in the previous league encounter.
Meanwhile, technical director Claude Makelele says that he won’t interfere in the manager’s job.”I will leave him the time to learn to know me. That doesn’t give me any problems. He will understand that I’m here to help him with the project. I’m not crooked — Ancelotti and Laurent Blanc can bear witness to that.I can understand that my arrival might be a shock for everyone. The vice-president reassured him. I have my job, he has his. It went very well. We’re going to work together in the same direction,” said Makelele.
